Question

Does at least 50% of the dairy come from cows that are not treated with synthetic hormones and are not given preventive antibiotics?

Reference

A biological cow is not allowed to be treated with antibiotics or hormones, unless the cow is so sick that it can become life-threatening. When the cow received antibiotic more than twice, its dairy cannot be sold as “organic milk” anymore. When a cow is treated with hormones and antibiotics it will find its way in the milk which is consumed by human beings and can cause health problems. [1]

This guideline is set by EKO [2]. When a product is labelled with the EKO sign, it indicates that the product has organic origin. The standards of EKO are made up by and protected by the European Commission. According to EKO, cows can not be treated with synthetic hormones and can not be given preventive antibiotics in order to be certified organic.

Best Practice: Vecozuivel has 100% organic milk, which indicates that 100% (so at least 50%) of their cows are not treated with synthetic hormones and are not given preventive antibiotics.
