Regarding sustainability, Fairfood indicates various ‘priority issues’ in the banana sector. Certification schemes aiming to improve the environmental and social conditions as applicable to bananas are e.g. Fair Trade (Max Havelaar) and Rainforest Alliance. For backgrounds on these schemes, see the site of the Tropical Commodities Coalition (TCC).

In reference to the former question, we accept all certification schemes as evaluated by the Tropical Commodity Coalition, that are applicable to bananas. Fair Trade (Max Havelaar) and Rainforest Alliance are most common in the Netherlands. The Supermarket Chain 'Plus Supermarkten' shows the ‘best practice’ with 100% assortiment fair-trade certified bananas.
